Wood Nails
Project description
The cooperation project “Holznägel” (engl. Wooden Nails) between Dr. Hans Korte (Wismar), Institute of Wood Science and the company Raimund Beck KG (Mauerkirchen, Austria) is funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). The objective of this project is to study the properties of wooden nails during their machining and utilization. The nails are made of indigenous beech wood impregnated in synthetic resin. Compared to steel nails, wooden nails have more advantages such as twice as much pull-out resistance, manufacturing process with lower energy consumption, light weight, prevention of heat bridges and color reaction with woods containing tannin acid like oak.
