Cultivation of nitrite oxidizing bacteria from Yellowstone hot springs

In geothermal settings, the second step of nitrification is mediated by so far unknown deeply branching bacteria with distinct morphologies and survival strategies. These novel nitrite oxidizing bacteria were recently discovered by cultivation dependent studies. Read the article in The ISME Journal.
