The Effect of Ecologically Enhanced Areas in the Astronomy Park of the Hamburg-Bergedorf Observatory on Pollinator Diversity

This study focuses on whether ecologically enhanced areas can positively influence pollinator biodiversity. For this purpose, an area of 1,160 m² in the Astronomy Park of the Hamburg-Bergedorf Observatory was designed with a variety of flowering plant species intended to serve as a nutritional resource for pollinators.
From May to August, monitoring was conducted once a month. Pollinator visits on the ecologically enhanced areas were compared to those on conventional lawn areas used as controls. In addition, the diversity and abundance of pollinators were recorded, and their activity patterns throughout the day were analyzed. The aim was to thoroughly assess the ecological value of the newly designed areas for pollinators.
