Information on Courses
Objectives of the Minor:
The Bachelor of Arts minor in History of Science provides students with fundamental knowledge about the historical development of the natural sciences and natural philosophy, respectively, as well as technology with regard to two of four different periods (I: Early Civilizations and Antiquity – II: Middle Ages and Renaissance – III: 17th and 18th centuries – IV: 19th and 20th centuries). Furthermore students acquire deepened and specialized as well as methodological knowledge in a subfield of the history of science. Students learn to recognize the principal dependences and interactions between science and factors external to science, such as political and socio-economic circumstances. They understand what external factors influenced the historical development of science and technology and that the notion of science is epoch- and culture-dependent. By regularly giving presentations and composing term papers students develop and strengthen oral presentation and academic writing skills.
Program:
The Bachelor of Arts minor in History of Science comprises 45 credits and is divided into 2 study areas with 9 credits allotted to compulsory courses and 36 credits to elective courses.
