Algae Collection MZCH
Microalgae and Zygnematophyceae Collection Hamburg
The Microalgae and Zygnematophyceae Collection Hamburg (MZCH) is a living culture collection currently harboring more than 700 different strains of microalgae. This reference collection focuses on the class of Zygnematophyceae (conjugating green algae) which is represented with more than 600 strains. All six families of Zygnematophyceae: Closteriaceae, Desmidiaceae, Gonatozygaceae, Peniaceae, Mesotaeniaceae and Zygnemataceae are covered. MZCH offers its services as a stock center giving access to Zygnematophyceae strains. MZCH is a resource enabling experimental work on rare and in many cases endangered algae.
MZCH can provide referenced in vitro cultures for representatives of all streptophyte algae for research and teaching. MZCH can help with algae culturing and experimentation. A number of algae cultures belonging to the clade of Chlorophytes can also be provided.
MZCH is data provider for the GBOL (German Barcode of Life) and GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) platforms.
