Secretory Immunoglobulin A (sIgA) in saliva plays an important role in combating pathogens in the respiratory tract and may help prevent SARS-CoV-2 infections. In a study with 45 vaccinated and/or previously infected individuals, we examined the changes in the secretion of SARS-CoV-2-specific sIgA. Participants watched a disease video depicting COVID-19 typical symptoms, which led to an increase in SARS-CoV-2-specific sIgA against the spike protein. This increase negatively correlated with disgust when watching sick individuals, whereas another specific antibody type in saliva did not increase. These results suggest different roles of salivary antibodies in response to infection indicators associated with symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection.
