The Behavioral Immune System (BIS) supports the physiological immune system (PIS) and may reduce the risk of infection. In our study, we used video priming to investigate how disgust and disease stimuli influence the secretory immune response (s-IgA) in saliva. We created four videos, including two featuring infectious diseases and one with disgusting, non-communicable content. The results showed an increased s-IgA response depending on the perceived disease potential of the disease videos; however, we found no significant difference between the immune response to disease and disgust videos. Individuals with high contamination disgust produced less s-IgA, indicating an interaction between the BIS and PIS.
