On November 14th to 16th, the international workshop "Advancing Traits and Trade-offs in Mechanistic Vegetation Models across Scales" will take place at the IPM.
The workshop will focus on the general question: To what extent are ecophysiological traits and trade-offs, which are included in current process-based dynamic (global) vegetation models, sufficient to predict plant community composition for the next decades?
We will review the current state of the art regarding the representation of traits and trade-offs, and discuss which factors may still be missing in vegetation models. In particular, we will try to identify vegetation properties which are suitable to extend and improve model validation.
In this way, we will illustrate how to move forward in the development of trait-based dynamic vegetation models.
