Biologie Galaxy Server
Hello, the Biology Galaxy Server is online!
Galaxy is a web-based open-source application in the field of bioinformatics for computationally intensive biomedical research. In addition to the publicly available servers that can be used by anyone, for example in Freiburg and Texas, the Department of Biology has its own server for teaching and research, which is available to all biologists.
The Biology Galaxy Server is managed by Prof. Dr. Tobias Lenz, Dr. Andrej Fabrizius, Dr. Britta Meyer, and Jörn Adomeit (contact in computer science).
How do I get access?
Simply send an email( galaxy.biologie"AT"uni-hamburg.de) with the subject line “Galaxy access data.”
Why Galaxy?
It is ideally suited for analyzing large data sets from high-throughput sequencing, among other things. Unlike command line-based programs, the application is user-friendly and easy for new users to get started with. Common programs are installed via so-called wrappers, and the platform enables seamless integration of different versions.
Galaxy tools
- Many common tools are already installed. If you would like to try something that is not available, send us an email ( galaxy.biologie"AT"uni-hamburg.de)and we will try to install the tool.
- Available tools can be found here: Galaxy Tool Shed
Data storage
This Galaxy server is not a long-term storage option: please always delete the raw data after processing and store it elsewhere (for example, on the European Nucleotide Archive).
Computing capacity
The computing capacity of the application is reserved for courses in November and December. All other users may experience slower analyses.
For special bioinformatic applications such as genome/transcriptome assemblies, we recommend using Hummel HPC.
