The department's institutes are spread across several locations in Hamburg. These include the Institute of Plant Sciences and Microbiology (IPM), which is geographically located at Loki-Schmidt-Garten in Klein Flottbek, the Institute of Cell and Systems Biology of Animals (IZS) at Martin-Luther-King-Platz 3, the Institute of Marine Ecosystem and Fishery Sciences (IMF) near the fish market and the Institute of Wood Sciences (IHW) in Lohbrügge.
Associated Institutions
The Department of Biology works closely with the Botanical Garden (Loki-Schmidt-Garten), the Loki Schmidt House and the Museum of Nature Hamburg. These institutions are ‘showcases of science’. The Herbarium Hamburgense is an internationally important scientific plant collection.
