Plenary at Rhizosphere 6 conferenceMycorrhizal control of biogeochemical cycles in forests under global change
6 June 2025
Prof. Dr. Ina Meier of the Department of Biology at Universität Hamburg gives a plenary talk to discuss results of her DFG-funded Heisenberg project with international rhizosphere ecologists at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
The rhizosphere is the narrow region of soil that is directly influenced by root secretions and associated soil microbes, which plays a central role in ecosystems. In June 2025, Edinburgh is welcoming the global rhizosphere research community to provide a platform for discussion of new discoveries and developments in research linked to rhizosphere processes. The conference will showcase the latest advances in our understanding of the below ground world of plant roots and their interactions with the soil physical, chemical and biological environment under a changing climate. In her plenary talk, Prof. Meier will derive the importance of root interactions with fungal partners (that is mycorrhizal interactions) for understanding carbon and nitrogen cycling under climate change, will present some results on the mycorrhizal control of biodiversity effects in forests, and discuss open knowledge gaps.
