Contact Persons in the Event of Misconduct
Contact Persons for Students
- The Student Representatives
Student representatives are students from the student council and represent your interests. They can help you to contact the right people so that the misconduct you have experienced can be followed up consistently. Especially if there are uncertainties regarding possible disadvantages due to dependency situations in connection with the experience, the hurdle for discussion is probably the lowest here.
- Director of Curriculum and Teaching
Director of Curriculum and Teaching is a professorial member of the Department of Biology and deals intensively with all topics within this area. He/she is therefore particularly interested in ensuring that the department's teaching is not only at a high level in terms of content and technically up-to-date, but also that it is impeccable in terms of etiquette.
- Employees of the Academic Office Biology
The employees of the Academic Office Biology are administrative employees whose work revolves around all matters relating to studying at our department. You will certainly have already made contact with them in the course of timetabling or on other occasions, so that “familiar faces” are addressed.
- The Head of Department
As a professorial member of the department, the respective head of department is responsible for regulating all overarching issues during the term of office and is therefore always the contact person for critical issues affecting the department.
- Contact and Advice Center for Sexualized Harassment, Discrimination and Violence
At UHH, this office has been set up explicitly for students and deals exclusively with the issues raised. Here you will receive expert support and explanations on possible further steps you can take if you wish.
All of these people will take the time to listen to your experiences — which are always negative in such cases — treat the contents of the conversation confidentially, and will work with you to immediately improve the situation, clarify the assaults, as well as initiate the necessary measures to prevent any recurrence in the best possible way.
Please do not hesitate to seek advice and support as soon as the first tendencies become apparent, so that more serious stressful situations can be avoided as far as possible. Sometimes it can be helpful to gain certainty about your own perception by looking at the situation together and sorting it out. In general, however, any action perceived as an assault must be considered and clarified as such - regardless of the intention behind it.
Policy on Protection Against Sexualized Discrimination
Since December 2021, UHH has had a policy on protection against sexualized discrimination, harassment and violence, which clarifies the attitude at our university
