Diversity and transformation in focusResearch in the Loki Schmidt Garden

In the Loki Schmidt Garden, Prof Dr Jochen Fründ and his team are investigating how biocoenoses and their interactions - particularly between insects, spiders and plants - develop in the flowering meadow that was established two years ago.
The researchers are analysing how different mowing regimes and environmental conditions influence species diversity and the structure of ecological networks. Insects, spiders and their interactions are systematically recorded using standardised methods such as strip nets and ground traps. The aim is to better understand how species composition and networks develop as a result of climate change and changes in land use and how resilient such ecosystems are to these influences.
The video documents the research work by the students Felix Duhn, Finja Müller, Mia Vogel and Yannic Schröder at the Loki Schmidt Garden and shows how scientific findings can contribute to the conservation and promotion of biodiversity.
