Model Systems
At IHF ecosystem / biogeochemical compartment as well as individual based models are coupled to water column models or ocean circulation models:
in-house developed ecosystem compartment models:
- simple NPZD-type models
- plankton life cycle models
- biogeochemical models
- biogeophysical models
in-house developed 0- to 3-d individual-based models (IBMs):
- physiological IBM of foraging and growth of Atlantic herring larvae
- 'Quirks' (generic IBM for early feeding larvae)
- behaviour IBMs for plaice larvae and brown shrimp
models of ocean physics used for idealized, regional or global simulations:
- water column model GOTM
- ocean circulation model MITgcm
- global ocean circulation model MPIOM
- regional North Sea model HAMSOM
An example:
Temperature, zooplankton (total carbon), slope of the plankton size spectrum based on the lower trophic level model "ECOHAM", as well as "Quirks" model estimates of the growth of European anchovy larvae. The movie shows weekly snapshots from 1996 to 2006. Details of "Quirks"can be found in Huebert and Peck (2014).
