TRICMA² addresses the societal challenges posed by the need to adapt and improve the management and governance of Wadden Sea salt marshes, which is seriously contested by the triple crisis of biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution. The overarching goal of TRICMA is to create a set of guiding principles to support sustainable trilateral salt marsh management with an explicit focus on engagement with the future generation and involve stakeholders.

TRICMA², in addition to four other bilateral research projects (ParCA, SALTGARDEN, SedWay, WADWAD) aims to contribute to the development of sustainable management by investigating the triple ecological crisis on the Wadden Sea and its importance for coastal societies. The project is being conducted as part of the Netherlands Science Agenda (Nationale Wetenschapsagenda, NWA) and is funded by the German federal and Dutch governments and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).
