New DFG Project

A collaborative project between Germany and Poland was funded in the frame of the Beethoven program, funded by the DFG on the German side and the NCN from Poland. The two partners, the department of Developmental Biology from the University of Hamburg and the colleagues from the Department of Genetics from the University of Katowice will study the transcriptional response to DNA damage in Arabidopsis and barley in the next three years. This project is a continuation of the already successful collaboration between Prof. Iwona Szarejko (UK) and Prof. Arp Schnittger (UHH) that was started several years ago in the frame of a European project. The new grant is based on the molecular identification of a transcriptional regulatory complex, called DREAM, that appears to play a key role in cell division control. The combination of Arabidopsis and barely bears the great chance to immediately translate fundamental research results into breeding programs.
