New project launched!Bio-Home at the Center for Wood Sciences and Technology and Thünen
25 July 2016, by Florian Zeller
The team around Professor Krause (Wood Physics) is delighted to announce a new project. The project proposal with the acronym “BioHome” was evaluated positively by the BMBF and the DAAD and made it through the first and decisive round of the application process. The project announcement did request a dual concept with partner institutions from Sub-Saharan Africa that includes sustainable research and postgraduate education. The research and development proposed in the ambitious project outline with the title “Building materials for affordable housing made from bio-based and recycling resources” will be done by an international team of doctoral students and experienced researchers. Topics such as the development of composites made of biopolymers, secondary plastics and alternative lignocellulosic biomass will be researched. Material Flow Analysis and Life Cycle Assessments will be applied to get an insight on the availability of certain resources and the impact of their utilization.
Professor Krause and his team are especially happy about the newly won partners such as the Thünen Insitute of Wood Reseach, the Stellenbosch University in South Africa and the Hawassa University in Ethiopia. All partners will play a vital role in the project’s success.
More information will be published shortly.
