Master’s thesis opportunity available!“How does deadwood management shape spider communities in post-disturbance spruce forests?”

We are looking for MSc students:

As part of the research project PoToMa (“Dead Norway spruce monocultures in mid-rotation age – potentials of deadwood management”), in cooperation with Friedrich Schiller University Jena, we offer a Master’s thesis with a focus on arthropod ecology.

Focus of the thesis:
You will investigate how deadwood management influences spider communities in disturbance-affected spruce forests.

• Tasks:
  Identification of spiders to species level and other arthropod groups to order level
  Data evaluation and statistical analysis using models and variance partitioning
• Data basis:
  The study material will be collected from May to September 2026 at four-week intervals.
  Master’s students are not required to collect the samples themselves, but may participate in one or two field campaigns in Oberhof (Thuringia) if desired.
