Postdoctoral Researchers
Postdoctoral training and mentoring through RTG2530 aims to enable postdoctoral researchers achieve a higher level of scientific independence, to develop their own research programme and to transfer to the next stage of their career path. In this respect, postdoctoral researchers benefit from the cooperation with doctoral researchers, e.g. by practicing co-supervisions and by joint publications. While there are no compulsory courses for postdoctoral researchers, all courses offered to doctoral researchers are open to them. Career development elements for postdoctoral researchers are based on voluntary offers of support and advice. Hamburg Research Academy (HRA) workshops are particularly helpful for international postdoctoral researchers to gain transparency about the German academic system and conditions, such as WissZVG as well as offers on topics as "Support for Postdocs" and "Application training"
Regarding specific postdoctoral training, postdoctoral researchers benefit from courses offered through HRA and the MIN Graduate Center (MINGZ). Here, courses on working practices, on career prospects and career planning, and on ‘successful supervision’ are offered. Courses on ‘leading in academia’, ‘conducting negotiations successfully’, and ‘application training for professorships’ are also offered. In addition, the Hamburg Center for Teaching and Learning (HUL) holds workshops in ‘good teaching practice’. General advice for the preparation and writing of scientific proposals is available through the Research Management Department at UHH.
