Systems Immunology: Dynamics across Cellular Scales beyond Tissue Boundaries

Abstract: Our immune system operates on different scales in space and time. Molecular signalling cascades transduce input cues almost instantly, cells exhibit a wide range of turnover times and entire organs change as individuals age. Highly dimensional data features quantitative alterations in both, physiological as well as pathological settings. Given that information, the utilisation of computational models enables us to optimise experimental design, test hypotheses and infer complex dynamics in health and disease. The Adlung Lab, launched in July 2021 at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), addresses fundamental questions with clinical relevance by a combination of quantitative data generation and computational modelling.
