Dr. Andrej Fabrizius
The main interest of my research is the functional analysis of the newly discovered respiratory proteins like
neuroglobin, cytoglobin and androglobin. Despite of >10 years of intense research the expression patterns of
Neuroglobin (Ngb) in murine and human central nervous system are still a matter of debate. Appling newly
available next generation techniques (RNA-Seq) and wet lab methods like qRT-PCR and Western Blot I study the
regional expression pattern of Ngb in mammals. The phenotypical analysis of a conditional Ngb knock-out (KO)
mouse model can generate tissue- and region-specific functional hypotheses.
My other research project focusses on the generation of zebrafish (Danio rerio) globin KO fish models applying the Crispr/Cas-technique. These zebrafish KO fish can be used to study the in vivo functions of neuroglobin, cytoglobin, and globin X under various stress regimes and during the development, and compare them to mammalian globin function.
