Scope of the Biocenter Klein Flottbek

The biocenter in Hamburg-Klein Flottbek harbors the sections dedicated to botany and microbiology. The strategic aim for further development of the biocenter takes in account the challenges which the department of biology is is going to face within the next years, both from within the university as well as from outside. The scientific focus in the biocenter is based on the current capacity and expertise. Main research areas are:

Research

Much of the research focuses on four central themes that are based on the present research team within the centre:

Teaching

Courses are offered within the Bachelor of Science Biology (BScBIO), Bachelor of Science Molecular Life Science (BScMLS) and Bachelor of Science Forestry. Also courses and lectures within the master programs Master Applied and Molecular Botany (MScAMB), Master Biology (MScBIO) and Master Molecular Life Sciences (MScMLS). The biocentre educates about 800 students in the BSc programs and 175 in the MSc programs in each semester.

Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum

The Botanical Garden shows plants from all over the world, thematically and geographically grouped. Exhibitions in the Museum (Loki Schmidt-Haus) describe plant use and products.
